Frizz-Ease® FAQ
Choosing the appropriate product line to fit your hair-care needs will depend on what your needs are. If you have frizzy, colour-treated hair and your primary goal is to preserve your colour and increase shine, you should choose a shampoo and conditioner from either the Sheer Blonde®, Brilliant BrunetteT or Radiant RedT line. However, if your primary need deals with eliminating your frizz, you should choose a shampoo and conditioner from the Straight ForwardT, Curl AroundT or Weather WorksT line, depending on your specific style preferences.
Also note that products from the John Frieda Collection can be combined to create a regimen that is customized to your specific hair-care needs. If your hair is colour-treated and frizzy, you may wish to shampoo and condition with both the Sheer Blonde® and Brilliant BrunetteT Moisturising shampoos and conditioners in order to rehydrate and revitalize damaged, dry hair. To specifically target frizz, use the Frizz-Ease® Thermal Protection serum on wet or dry hair as it not only prevents frizz, but also protects against the damage and colour fading caused by heat-styling & UV exposure.
Unfortunately some people are born with naturally coarse hair which is frizzy however, even the healthiest, undamaged hair can get frizzy. Many contributors to frizz include excessive heat-styling (use of flat irons, curling irons, hair dryers), excessive combing and brushing of dry hair, and chemical processing which changes the structure and integrity of hair, leading to damage and frizz.
Yes. The Frizz-Ease® line is safe for use on all types of hair. If your primary need is to achieve an end style of either straight or curly then we recommend your use either Straight Ahead® shampoo and conditioner or Curl Around® shampoo and conditioner. However, if the primary benefit that you are seeking is to improve and maintain the look and shine of your colour, it is recommended that you use a shampoo and conditioner - from the Colour Care Collection - which contain Light EnhancersTM that are comprised of illuminating minerals and nourishing proteins to specifically optimise the effects of light, making blonde, brunette, and red hair look its best.
If I have colour-treated, frizzy hair, should I use products from the Colour Care Collection or from the Frizz-EaseŽ line?

Yes! Many people think that frizz only applies to having dry, coarse, wiry, frizzy hair. It is important to recognise that frizz is really a broad category incorporating everything from flyaways and split ends, to severe damage from over-processing and heat-styling that leaves your hair coarse and unmanageable. You do not need to have severely dry and damaged hair in order to benefit from the Frizz-Ease® line. The line offers prescriptive solutions to not only combat the varying degrees of frizz, but also to prevent it.
Frizz Ease® Thermal Protection serum, protects hair against UV rays and heat styling stress. Its lightweight formula is ideal to combat fine, flyaway frizz. Frizz Ease® Original Serum corrects dry, medium frizz. Frizz Ease® Extra Strength Serum corrects chronic, unruly frizz.
Yes. There are many different weather and environmental conditions that cause frizz. Weather can negatively impact both damaged hair and healthy hair, causing unwanted frizz. In high humidity/rainy conditions, excess moisture in the air will penetrate into the hair fibre, creating a moisture imbalance which gives hair a "mind of its own." In low humidity or dry/arid conditions, deficient moisture in the air can cause hair to dry out, as well as create an imbalance of positive "+" and negative "-" charges (static electricity) on hair. This imbalance can cause hair fibre repulsion or adhesion, which translates into frizz and flyaways or unmanageable, unruly hair. In sunny conditions, excessive UV light damages and weakens hair, making it more fragile and uncooperative and in windy conditions, excessive winds can make a perfect hair style look like a disaster.
For best results use the shampoo, conditioner and sealant.
How will the Weather WorksTM line by Frizz-EaseŽ help protect me from frizz in the different weather conditions?
The Weather WorksTM products were designed to shield hair from excessive style-ruining moisture. They envelope hair with a hydrophobic (water fearing) barrier that allows hair to stay in balance. The hydrophobic barrier shields the hair from excess moisture to prevent the frizz and flyaways that can occur in high-humidity conditions. The Weather WorksTM line also helps "lock" in that essential moisture and protect hair from drying out. The moisturizing and conditioning ingredients found in Weather WorksTM products protect hair from drying out and prevent static electricity, which can occur in low-humidity conditions. Weather WorksTM help wind.
For best results use the shampoo, conditioner and sealant.
If you have moderately dry, frizzy hair, you should use the Original Formula serum on your wet hair. The Original Formula is a silicone-based styling aid used to smooth dry, frizzy hair, while delivering a layer of crystal-clear gloss for perfect style. If you have extremely dry, coarse, unruly frizz, you should use the Extra-Strength Formula on wet hair. The Extra-Strength formula offers a high-potency blend of silicones to dramatically transform coarse, unruly hair, to help achieve a polished and sleek look while preventing future frizz. The Thermal Protection formula has all of the frizz-fighting benefits of the Original and Extra-Strength serums, but its lighter formula also protects against the damage caused by heat-styling and the sun. It is also unique as it can be used on towel-dried or dry hair. Its daily use smoothes hair and prolongs colour.
The Weather WorksTM line works best as a system and most effectively with the use of the Weather-ProofingTM Style Sealant Creme, which seals split ends, tames and blocks frizz and flyaways and aids in styling manageability and control without being oily or greasy. The Style Sealant Creme is effective in both improving the smoothness of hair and eliminating frizz and reduces the need for a serum. However, for certain types of thick, course, frizz-prone hair, the use of a serum may help in fighting and taming natural frizz.
The Frizz-Ease® serums are powerful frizz-fighting tools and, like all of the styling products in the John Frieda® Collection, should be used sparingly. It is best to start with a very small amount (one pump) and rub it into the palm of your hands before distributing it evenly throughout the hair. The amount of serum required will vary, depending on hair length and thickness and if the hair is dry, you should use less of the product.
Each Frizz-Ease® Serum has different benefits and is targeted with a different frizz-fighting purpose.

It is not recommended that you use two serums at once to avoid product buildup in your hair. However, you may wish to use the Original Formula, Thermal Protection or Extra-Strength Formula in the morning, and the Overnight Repair Crème Serum before bed. The use of the Overnight Repair formula before bed will help mend damage and split ends while you sleep. Your hair will feel soft and silky in the morning so that you require less serum use during your daily styling routine.
To achieve a polished and sleek, straight style, first shampoo and condition with the Straight Ahead® Shampoo and Conditioner. Formulated with frizz-fighting silicone and a straight-defining complex, the shampoo and conditioner will help to create sleek, supple, shimmering frizz-resistant strands. Apply onto wet hair a serum that is most suitable for your hair type. Then spray Straightening Potion® liberally throughout towel-dried hair before blow-drying with a brush. The spray's Inner Smoothing TechnologyTM penetrates strands to smooth and straighten from the inside out. Finish the look by applying a small amount of Secret Agent® Styling Creme onto dry hair to smooth flyaways and add manageability and shine after blow-drying or using the flat iron. To help straighten unruly, coarse, curly hair, replace the use of the Straightening Potion® with Wind-Down® Relaxing Creme. Work the creme through damp hair from roots to ends, comb and blow-dry as the temporary relaxers "stretches" ultra-tight, super-resistant curls straighter as you blow-dry.
To achieve the look of smooth, frizz-free shiny curls, first shampoo and condition using Curl Around® Shampoo and Conditioner. Formulated with frizz-fighting silicone and a curl-defining complex, the Curl Around® Shampoo and Conditioner bring to life your natural curl pattern for gorgeous, shiny spirals. Apply onto wet hair a serum that is most suitable for your hair type. Next, spray Dream Curls® Curl Perfecter liberally on damp hair from roots to ends. "Scrunch" small sections of hair to help create waves. Allow hair to dry naturally or blow-dry using a diffuser with the dryer set on low . Dream Curls® spray's exceptional alcohol-free formula with magnesium penetrates hair to enhance your natural curl pattern, while its non-greasy conditioning and glossing agents leave curls smooth, glistening and healthy looking. Finish the look by applying a small amount of Secret Agenty® Styling Creme to tame flyaways and increase manageability. For added shine, apply a spritz of Serum Finishing Spray to your new soft, frizz-free, bouncy curls.
To help prevent and protect against the style-damaging effects of different weather conditions, shampoo and condition with Weather WorksTM Weather-ProofingTM Shampoo and Weather-ProofingTM Conditioner. Developed for all hair types, its 'Shielding Technology' creates a barrier that blocks out heat and humidity and locks in moisture to prevent static, providing essential preparation for weather-resistant hair. Next, apply Weather-ProofingTM Style Sealant Creme to wet or towel-dried hair. Rub a small amount into hands and distribute evenly on hair. It works to seal the cuticle and prevent frizz and flyaways caused by the different weather conditions. Lastly, style hair as desired and finish with Moisture Barrier Hair Spray to create an instant style-supporting barrier that seals out moisture to prevent frizz. Its shine-boosting formula also contains a sunscreen for added weather protection.
It is recommended that you wash your hair the following morning. The product is a lightweight crème, it absorbs quickly into dry hair the night before, leaving no greasy residue on your pillow or in your hair the next morning. However, if shampooing and conditioning are part of your regular morning routine, you will still see the benefits of the product even after it is washed out.
The lightweight crème formula is non-greasy and absorbs quickly into dry hair so that no residue is left on your pillow.
Since the serum is a lightweight crème formula, it's not oily or greasy and it absorbs quickly into dry hair without making hair feel greasy in the morning. Note, amount of product to be applied will vary, based on each individual's hair length and texture. For naturally oily hair, avoid putting the product near the roots and wash it out the next morning for silky feeling, healthier-looking hair.
