Halo Plait

How to get this look

Share Print

  • Step 1: Prepare the hair.  The key to this look is having some grip in the hair so that the look doesn’t come loose or fall out.  Hair which isn’t freshly washed will work perfectly.  If your hair is freshly washed then simply apply some Luxurious Volume Anytime Volume Refresher Spray to the roots of the hair, section by section, to give it a little more texture.  If your hair still feels a little silky and slippery then apply some hairspray all over as well.
  • Step 2: Practice your French plait.  Put a centre parting in your hair and then take a chunky section of hair from the front.  TOP TIP: pin the rest of the hair back with a hair band or clip so it doesn’t get in the way.  Split the front section into an upper half and a lower half.  Drop the lower half and split the upper half into 3 even-sized pieces.  Begin plaiting by taking the left hand piece over the centre piece so that the left hand piece now becomes the centre piece.  Then take the right hand piece over the centre piece so that the right hand piece now becomes the centre piece.  Repeat.  To create a French plait, each time you take a piece of hair over the centre piece make sure to gather up a small chunk of hair from the lower section and work it in.  So the pieces will get gradually thicker as you work your way down your head and they’ll all weave together.  Once you’ve reached the end tie it off with a hair band.
  • Step 3: Create the halo plait.  Once you’ve mastered French plaiting you can try the halo plait.  Use a comb to create a messy centre parting from the front of your hairline all the way to the nape of your neck.  Take a chunky section from the nape of your neck and split it into 3 even-sized pieces.  Begin plaiting, working pieces into the plait as you follow the hairline round the head towards the front of your face.  Keep going all the way round until you reach the nape again – you have created a halo all around your hairline.  Finish the plait off all the way to the ends of the length of hair and secure the plait with a hairband.  Bring that end up, behind the ear and secure with a pin to hold it in place.
  • Step 4: add the finishing touches.  Use some Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier hairspray as a light mist all over your hair.
