Relaxed Up Do

How to get this look

Share Print

  • Step 1: Prep the hair.  Shampoo and towel dry your hair.  Apply some Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse to a vent brush, enough to cover the bristles.  Brush the mousse through the hair from root to tip, then flip your head upside down and rough dry your hair with a hairdryer.
  •
  • Step 2: Create curls around the perimeter of the hairline.  TOP TIP: to save time you only need to curl the hair which is going to be seen around the hairline.  To do this, pull all your hair back away from your face with your hands, as if creating a high ponytail.  Then gently tease out a chunky section of hair which follows the perimeter of your hairline, all the way round your head, so you’re left holding the centre section of hair at the crown.  Simply pin this crown section up with a clip to keep it out of the way while you begin curling the perimeter.  Set your curling tongs on a medium heat setting.  Take a 3-4cm wide section of hair from the perimeter and grip the very end of the section with a tong’s clasp.  TOP TIP: prevent crooked ends by ensuring the tip of the section is correctly wound around the tong barrel and not tucked back in on itself.  Wind the length of the strand up around the barrel of the tong.  Hold for 4 seconds and then unwrap the hair.  Repeat until every piece of the perimeter is curled.
  •
  • Step 3: Pin your hair up high.  Release the clip which is holding the crown section up and let your hair fall down.  Take the uppermost part of the crown section, about 6cm wide and 2cm thick, and pull the piece taught away from your head.  Using a fine toothed comb, begin to backcomb by pulling the comb along the hair back towards the scalp, in the opposite direction to the way the hair is growing.  Focus only on the 3-4cm nearest to the scalp – you don’t need to backcomb the lengths of the hair.  Then take another section from the crown, backcomb it in the same way, and repeat this another 2 times so you’re left with 4 sections which have been backcombed from the crown towards the nape of the neck.   Take the uppermost backcombed section and roll it around your fingers, as though your fingers were a barrel tong, so that the hair rolls flat to your head.  Secure the roll in place with a Kirby grip or two and this creates the base for your relaxed up do.  Now take random curled sections from the perimeter and twist them loosely up to the base roll you’ve created and secure each one in place with a hair pin.  Complete this until all the perimeter hair is secured up high.

  • Step 4: Add the finishing touches.  To give the look a bit of extra sparkle you could buy a glitzy headband or some pretty clips and add these to the finished look.
