Sheer Blonde FAQ
No, none of the Sheer Blonde® shampoos or conditioners deposit or add any colour. Instead, they work to intensify glistening highlights by gently removing dulling buildup and residues that can make blonde look dark and dull. Your natural, highlighted or colour-treated hair will be instantly restored to bring out your brightest, most luminous blonde.
No, none of the Sheer Blonde® products will change the colour of your Brunette hair. The Highlight Activating Shampoos and Conditioners do not deposit or add any colour and instead, work to rid hair of dulling residue that can make hair look dark and dull. As a result, your hair will be restored to its intended shade, allowing the natural clarity of your colour to shine through.
If I have colour-treated, frizzy hair, should I use products from the Colour Care Collection or from the Frizz-EaseŽ line?
Choosing the appropriate product line to fit your hair-care needs will depend on what your needs are. If you have frizzy, colour-treated hair and your primary goal is to preserve your colour and increase shine, you should choose a shampoo and conditioner from either the Sheer Blonde®, Brilliant Brunette® or Radiant Red line. However, if your primary need deals with eliminating your frizz, you should choose a shampoo and conditioner from the Straight Ahead®, Curl Around® or Weather WorksTM line, depending on your specific style preferences.
Also note that products from the John Frieda® Collection can be combined to create a regime that is customised to your specific hair-care needs. If your hair is colour-treated and frizzy, you may wish to shampoo and condition with the Sheer Blonde® or Brilliant Brunette® Moisturising shampoos and conditioners in order to rehydrate and revitalise damaged, dry hair. To specifically target frizz, use the Frizz-Ease® Thermal Protection serum on wet or dry hair as it not only prevents frizz, but also protects against the damage and colour fading caused by heat-styling & UV exposure.
No. The professionals behind the John Frieda® Collection recognise that blondes, brunettes and redheads, whether natural or colour-treated, have different care and texture needs. The Colour Care Collection identifies the different hair colour needs and addresses the unique ways in which each hair shade transforms light into a powerful colour and shine maximising tool. The line uses Light Enhancing TechnologyTM to optimise the effects of light to make blonde, brunette and red hair look its best with more intense shine and vivid colour than ever before.
Absolutely. Sheer Blonde® products work perfectly to bring out the natural beauty of grey or greying hair. The same way as it works with blonde hair, our patented Light EnhancersTM refresh and perfect the hair's tone to play up your purest, brightest grey. Like blonde hair, grey hair is transparent by nature which means that buildup will immediately show, making the hair look brassy or dull. The Sheer Blonde® line removes the buildup that comes from the calcium and phosphorus in our water, so that your naturally transparent hair glistens and shines. It is recommended that if you have grey hair, you use the Highlight Activating Moisturising Shampoo and Highlight Activating Moisturising Conditioner for Platinum to Champagne shades. The moisturising agents in these products help to diminish the effects of aging by replenishing dry hair with extra moisture, and work to restore dazzling highlights.
Yes, Sheer Blonde® Boost Mousse® deposits a light violet tint, which helps to eliminate brassiness and keep blonde tones light, bright and shining. It is recommended that when using this product, you avoid contact with clothing, towels and other porous materials as it may stain.
I have brown hair with blonde highlights. Should I use Brilliant BrunetteŽ or Sheer BlondeŽ products?
It is recommended if you have highlights that you use the John Frieda® Collection colour shade that best matches your desired benefit. If you want to enhance your highlights and make them brighter, you should use the Sheer Blonde® Colour Renew product line. This will rid hair of the dulling deposits that can darken blonde, leaving highlights soft and glistening. However, if you are looking to enhance hair's shine and luminosity, it is recommended that you use the Brilliant Brunette® product line. This will illuminate hair's rich multi-dimensional tones, resulting in exquisite, dazzling shine. If desired, you can use both products interchangeably to receive both sets of benefits.
I have over-processed my hair and now it is extremely dry, brittle and unmanageable. What products can I use to help restore my hair's health?
For extremely dry, damaged hair, it is recommended that you start with Sheer Blonde® Highlight Activating Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner. This works to restore hair's softness and moisture that is lost during the colouring process. Next, you should use Sheer Blonde® Healthy Attitude® leave-in nourishing spray. This infuses dry, damaged, blonde hair with essential vitamins and protein to instantly replenish lost moisture and penetrate areas prone to splitting from heat-styling and over-processing. With continual use, hair will become silky-soft and noticeably healthier.
It is recommended that, if you have very light platinum blonde hair with cool undertones, you use the Sheer Blonde® Highlight Activating products for Platinum to Champagne hair. If you have darker blonde hair with warm undertones, you should use the Sheer Blonde® Highlight Activating products for Honey to Caramel hair. If you want to enhance your highlights and make them brighter, you should use the Sheer Blonde® Colour Renew product line.
Lavender and yellow are on opposite sides of the colour spectrum so counteract the colour contribution of each other. The result is a neutral or almost no colour contribution to the hair.
Optical Brighteners are fluorescent dyes which adhere to a surface, absorb UV light, and change it into visible blue light. When you put optical brighteners on hair that's already giving off a brassy (brown/orange/yellow) light to our eyes, the blue light completes the spectrum and what our eyes now see is white. We don't see the blue or the brassy tones individually any longer. The result is blonde hair that appears brighter, lighter and less brassy/orangey (compared to hair that is not colour treated).
Each product in the range is formulated to correct and protect your blonde colour. The shampoo and Tone-Booster contain Purple Technology to counteract the brassiness and the conditioner contains Enhancement Conditioner Technology to help protect your blonde colour from fading. All of the products contain Optical Brighteners to counteract yellow and brassy tones and to make your hair brighter.
If you use the Shampoo and Conditioner only, you will see a reduction in brassiness. However, to maximize the colour correcting results we recommend using the entire range.
You can use the Colour Renew range to keep your hair looking salon fresh, even if you don not have brassy tones.
If your natural blonde hair has brassiness or yellow tones to it, you can use the Colour Renew range to counteract the brassiness.
